A relatively new release for the Primaris Space Marine range, the Gravis Captain is one I have been meaning to pick up for a while. Now that I've got around to picking it up, I've assembled the kit and will give my review of it here.
The kit comes in a small blister clampack and it contains two of the smallest sprue sizes they do, essentially a quarter the size of a regular sprue. The quality is as good as you would expect from Games Workshop and the mould lines were minimal.
One issue I did encounter was that the bits attaching the iron halo to the armour were quite fragile and actually snapped when I was taking them off the sprue. Take care when clipping these off to avoid my mistakes. Thankfully it was nothing a bit of plastic glue could not mask.
The kit comes with three heads: helmeted, the half mask, and bare. I went with the half mask as I felt it looked the most interesting. You also get a choice of clasp for the cloak but the pieces are basically the same regardless. More obviously, you get a choice of three weapons in the right arm. Chainsword, power sword, and fist. What these do in the new edition remains to be seen but I went with the fist as I felt it looked best and I already have the old power sword gravis captain from the first Primaris release.
Two further gripes with the kit are that the servo skull is, bizarrely, not optional without some conversion work. There is a big gouge in the backpack that it attaches too. Some greenstuff could tidy this up if you don't want it there, but it is irksome that it takes even that much effort. The other thing is that the kit does not support the Chapter specific shoulder pads. Obviously this will not affect everyone but it is still annoying.
Despite these niggles, I did enjoy building the kit and can recommend the model for anyone who is interested in it. It went together easily enough and did not take long at all. Hopefully Games Workshop grace us with decent rules for him in 10th, but I have no doubt that he will be running alongside my Aggressors at some point in the next edition regardless. Gravis is certainly a high point of the Primaris range for me and it wou't take much to encourage me to run them.
