Goblin wolf riders. These diminutive little creatures alone almost convinced me to pick up an Orcs and Goblins army for Warhammer Fantasy Battles back in the day, but the questionable quality and age of the sculpts kept me away. A decade passed and Rippa's Snarlfangs were released for Warhammer Underworlds; hope was kindled. A few years later, Snarlfang Riders were released for Gloomspite Gitz. They were great, but they felt like a bit of an odd duck in the Gloomspite range. Now though, Games Workshop are releasing a whole sub-range of sun worshipping goblin wolf riders for the Gloomspite Gitz, the Gitmob, and I am here for it.
The leader of the Gitmob, Droggz is a large gobbo riding atop a monstrous wolf, Jaggedsnarl. Droggz is actually a name taken up by a number of goblins, with Jaggedsnarl choosing a new goblin to take up the mantle once his rider inevitably meets his end. The model comes with a choice of heads (helmeted and non-helmeted) which is a neat nod to this bit of fluff, but otherwise it does not have any options. He is mounted onto a 60mm circular base.
I was sold on this model instantly. Jaggedsnarl is a huge gnarly looking wolf posed menacingly on a tactical rock, and Droggz himself has the gut look of a successful goblin warboss.
Mouldlines were a non issue with this kit and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I did have some issues with the rock base not gluing together great, which did make him a bit wobbly before being glued to the base. Likely as a result of this, aligning Jaggedsnarl's paws to the rock base proved a bit fiddly but I got it in the end. The handhold on the saddle was fine for me, but supposedly others have had issues with it dropping inside the model when setting it in place during assembly. Other than that, a very enjoyable kit to build.
Sunsteala Wheelas
These are the revamped wolf rider chariots and two come in the kit. Again, they were a high quality kit and enjoyable to build. I didn't have much in the way of mouldlines for the chariot portion itself, but oddly (considering they are all on the one sprue) the goblin passengers had pretty heavy mouldlines on them. The chariots are mounted on a 105mm oval base. There's a fair degree of customisation available on the chariot accessories and with the goblin passengers. There will also be at least four spare gobbos per chariot that you can theoretically use as Gitmob flavoured Stabbas or Shootas. There is also a choice of wheels that will allow you to have your chariot lifted off the ground on one side. The chariots and the wolves went together really well for me, but I did find space in the chariot rather cramped for trying to squeeze two goblins and some accessories. One of the goblins can be perched off the side of the chariot which helped alleviate this issue. Sub-assemblies will be very useful for painting as a result. Definitely a fiddly model given how detailed and (relatively) small it is, but a very enjoyable build. Out of all the kits in the box, it definitely has the most customisation available to it.
Snarlpack Cavalry
The bulk of the box (if you can call it that); you get two units of these in the box. These are the elite wolf riders, to the Snarlfang Rider's 'core'. These felt very straight forward to build but sadly did not really have anything in the way of customisation. Each of the wolf heads can be put on any body, so you can in theory have many different looking models, but it's not a huge change. You get the option of a unit leader which is the only meaningful change for the riders if you have multiple kits. As ever, the kits are good quality and went together a treat. Doing these after the chariots was a blessing. For ease of painting, the goblins can be left off the wolves which can assist with all the nooks and details everywhere. These will take Contrast-style paints really well.
All in all, I was very pleased with the models and can not wait to get my hands on some of the other kits once they come out. For those who missed out on the Army Box, the upcoming Spearhead boxset actually offers a very similar package of models and will be a good place to join the Gitmob Waaaagh.
