With the launch of the Kill Team: Gallowfall box we see the first Kill Team kit for the Leagues of Votann, the Hearthkyn Salvagers, which add an upgrade sprue to the existing Hearthkyn Warrior kit. Here, I will review the models included in the kit, with a focus on the new upgrade sprue. The operatives that the kit allows you to build are: Theyn, Dozr, Field Medic, Grenadier, Jump Pack Warrior, Kinlynk, Kognitaar, Lokatr, Lugger, Gunner, and Warrior.
The majority of the kit is the same as the existing Hearthkyn Warrior kit and this is already a great set of sprues with a bunch of different wargear options available. The helmet visors can be a bit tricky to lock into place but as long as you are attaching the correct one to the right body, you should not have many issues. The instructions advise you that certain weapons need to go with certain bodies also, but this is not strictly the case. Dryfit before you glue, but you should be able to swap arms to other bodies to add more variety.
The upgrade sprue contains a few new aesthetic options (more ironkyn are always welcome) but the more noteworthy extras are the jetpack, the knuckle dusters, and the HYLas Rotary Cannon. The HYLas Rotary Cannon in particular will have rules for 40k so the box is likely to be essentially replacing the Hearthkyn Warrior kit for many people.
Unfortunately, there were quite severe mouldlines along the Hearthkyn Warrior sprues, although this was not an issue with the new upgrade sprue. I have encountered this issue with the Hearthyn Wqrrior sprues in the Combat Patrol, but the ones that came in the launch box were free of this issue so it seems to have popped up more recently.
It is also unfortunate that the Kill Team: Gallowfall box sold out instantly as it is the only way to obtain the Salvagers and Beastmen Kill Teams, and they are both very solid kits. If you are interested in the Kin then I highly recommend picking up this Kill Team once it is available to purchase separately. The Salvagers are lovely models and the extra wargear options are a welcome addition. Hopefully the jetpack is a sign of things to come and we get a dedicated unit of them to add some fast combat punch to the army.
